Working Group Smart Mapping

The new way to experience official maps.
Our products

The AG Smart Mapping introduces itself

The Smart Mapping working group was set up by the plenary and is a joint federal-state working group. It consists of employees from the Laender and the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG).

The federal government and the Laender have jointly developed a process that makes it possible to create various cartographic products centrally and largely automatically on the basis of official geospational reference data.

In the Smart Mapping process, AdV standard products are designed and implemented in a central cloud infrastructure using agile methods by our own developers in coordination with the experts from the Working Committee Geotopography (AK GT). This creates synergies in personnel deployment, cost reductions and time savings in development and production. The process consistently relies on automatic production and quality-assured provision of uniform, highly up-to-date products across the board.

Our goals at a glance

  • a common procedural solution between the federal government and the Laender
  • the integration of official geospational reference data from all German surveying and mapping authorities and geodata from an official and non-official perspective
  • agile process development
  • the use of open source software
  • a simple, user-oriented data model for geodata
  • development of new AdV standard products
