basemap. de is the common, nationwide uniform one official map product line from the federal and state governments . It is derived from the spatial reference data of the surveying and geoinformation administrations and is provided centrally as a digital background map or as a map service.
To put it simply, basemap.de is that official German counterpart to digital background maps such as OpenStreetMap or Google Maps – however, based on official geospatial data and with a uniform map image for the whole of Germany.
Viewer basemap.de
One of the most important new products is the basemap. de web vector . This web map does not consist of finished card images, but rather tiled vector data (Vector Tiles). The display is only created in the browser or in the app. In order to be able to view the advantages visually, a client (viewer basemap.de) was developed for testing purposes.
The main benefits that can be tested in the viewer are:
- Sharp display at any resolution
Text, lines and symbols remain sharp even on high-resolution displays and at high magnification. - Flexible design
Colors, line widths, labels and symbols can be changed client-side without creating new map tiles. For example, a light, dark or thematic map can be created from the same data. - Interactive objects
Map objects are clickable and show the attributes according to the data model. - Show and hide content
Individual levels or object types can be specifically displayed or selected, such as streets, buildings, administrative boundaries or bodies of water. - Dynamic representation by scale
Depending on the zoom level, different content, labels and generalization levels are displayed. - Data-driven visualization
Objects can be represented differently depending on their attributes, for example streets by street class or buildings by usage. - Rotatable and tiltable map views
Labels and icons can adapt to the map view. Perspective displays and some 3D effects are also possible. The fonts remain focused on the viewer. - Fast display of even large data sets
The data is transmitted spatially and tiled according to zoom levels. This means that the entire data set does not have to be loaded at once. This increases performance, especially for mobile applications. - Good reusability
A centrally provided vector tile service can be used as a basis for any web map application.
Opposite one WMS or Raster Tile Service the main advantage is that not only a finished image is transmitted. The client receives geometric and factual information and can use it to create an interactive, individually designed map.
