Official Topographic Maps (DTK)
You can find both, printed topographic maps (TK) or digital topographic maps as raster data (DTK), provided by the surveying authorities of Germany. The DTK are share from the Authorative Topographic-Cartographic Information System (ATKIS®).
Topographic maps are generated from digital landscape models (DLM) and digital terrain models (DGM). The raster data are divided in different levels according to cartographic content elements and can be handed over as single-colour, single levels and as single-colour and coloured combination issue (“Single-colour Edition” and “Colour Edition”).
The following topographic maps with different scales are provided by the German state survey for nationally standardised topographic description of the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany:

Thereby, the surveying authorities of the Federal States are responsible for the DTK10/DTK25, DTK50 and DTK100 while the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) is responsible for the DTK250 and DTK1000. The DTK10 covering the needs only exists in the eastern Federal States.
The DTK is either:

new digital topographic maps which are derived in new map graphics and levels arrangement from a corresponding ATKIS-DLM and DGM and are designated as DTK (e.g. DTK25) or the
-
conventional digital topographic maps which are created by scanning analogue originals and computer supported updating and are designated as “Provisional Edition” DTK-V (e.g. DTK25-V).
With the increasing provision of the DTK, it is intended to stop supplying the DTK-V. It is possible that both types of product will be provided for a transitional period.
The ATKIS®-catalogues of signatures (SK), that are necessary to the visualisation, are provided as a no-charge download. They are available only in german (GeoInfoDok).
